Football: Saudi Arabia and Syria have wins

Syria's youth soccer team defeated Jordan's soccer team 2-0 at the opening tournament of the second group of the 31st Asian Nations Cup playoffs, which opened on Sunday in Beirut.
The two goals were scored by Maher al-Sayyed in minute 52 and Ahmad Azzam in minute 75. The second group also includes Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, who met on Sunday evening with the Saudis taking a 1-0 decision.
The Syrian team will play its second match on Tuesday against the Lebanese team while the Jordanian team will play the Saudi team on the same day.
The second group's matches will conclude on Thursday with a match between Syria and Saudi Arabia anda match will take place between Lebanon and Jordan.
The winner of the first position will qualify for the Asian Nations Cup finals to be staged in Thailand in October 1998.
