Moroccan Constitutional Union to elect leader on Sunday
Morocco, Politics, 5/8/1998
The Moroccan Constitutional Union Party will hold an exceptional conference on Sunday to elect a new leader for the party as a successor to founder El-Moti Bu Ebid, who died at the end of 1996.
The party, which had been the Moroccan majority leader before the opposition groups won last year's elections, is still following collective management, where five members of the political bureau were alternately assuming the party's management as the death of the founder came at a time when the political parties were getting ready to confront the recent elections.
The current head of the party, Abdul El-Aziz EL-Maioui said that they chose the proper time to hold a conference and on the party level.
The supervisor expected that the competition for the party's leadership will be among EL-Maioui, Abdul Latif El-Semlaor, the minister of youth and athletics; and Abdul Allah Azmani, the former culture and economic minister.
