Egyptian talks with Arab states to deal with Israeli position
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 5/7/1998
Egyptian diplomatic sources confirmed today that Egypt is in talks with Arab states concerning methods of uniting the Arab position based on the Arab summit's resolutions regarding the peace process to confront the Israeli stance.
The sources told ArabicNews.com that these communications tackled the steps that could be taken to restart the deadlocked peace process, stalled due to the Israeli government's policies.
The sources added that there is a trend toward convening a conference of Arab foreign ministers to discuss the status of the peace process, as well to take practical steps based on the resolutions of the last Arab summit -- which linked normalization with the advance in the peace process
The sources also said there is the possibility of convening at least a mini-Arab summit that comprises Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Tunisia in the case of the Washington meetings' failure, refereing tothis coming Monday's expected meeting to be attended by President Arafat and Prime Minister Netanyahu.
