Mubarak confers with US army commander
Egypt-USA, Politics, 5/6/1998

President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt yesterday in Cairo received commander of the US central joint forces Tony Zinni and members of Zinni's accompanying delegation. No information was reported on topics discussed in the meeting, which was attended by the Egyptian armed forces' chief of staff Majdi Hatatah and the US ambassador in Cairo, Daniel Kurtzer.

Meanwhile, Zinni described his meeting with President Mubarak as very good, during which the situation in the Middle East was reviewed. In a statement he made to reporters following the meeting, Zinni said that during his tour, which covered Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Egypt, he has discussed military cooperation with these countries and their contributions to expenditures of the US troops stationed in the Gulf region.
