26 Jordanians visit 14 detainees in Kuwait

Spokesman for the International Red Cross committee in Jordan, Mu'n Qassis, said that 26 Jordanians, mostly women and children, left Amman on Monday for Kuwait to visit 14 prisoners in the central prison in Kuwait, noting that this is the fourth visit by the committee since the end of the Gulf War in 1991. The last visit came in January 1997.
The 26 Jordanians boarded a Jordanian royal aircraft which resumed direct flights to Kuwait in July 1997 after a seven-year halt that was the result of Jordanian position during the Iraqi-Kuwaiti gulf war. They will return to Jordan on Thursday.
Most of the detained Jordanians in Kuwait are accused of collaboration with the Iraqi occupation forces between August 1990 and February 1991.
Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah pardoned 13 of them on April 27 and released 25 of them in the next day.
