Industrial free area zone starts receiving applications
Jordan, Business, 5/5/1998

Jordan's Prime Minister Abdul-Salam Majali yesterday visited Hassan Industrial Zone in Irbid city. He took a fast look at the services provided there to attract investment.

"Due to its advanced infrastructure facilities, the zone has become the first qualified industrial zone in the world according to the US presidency's announcement last March," the director-general of Industrial Zone Corporation said." The Corporation has received many applications from several countries, especially the USA and East Asian states to set up new plans or move some other factories from other countries to the zone," he stated.

Under the agreement among concerned sides, products of the zone can enter the US markets free of taxes.

"The total area of the zone currently stands at 629 Dunums and more than 2,500 workers are employed in the area," he said, adding that one of the pressing problems is the current shortage in water supply.
