Many arrested in Zarqa and Amman for political reasons

The spokesman of Jordanian People's Democratic Party announced in a statement that a number of the party's members in Zarqa, Amman and Bak'a were arrested by Jordanian security apparatus.

The party's spokesman asked the Jordanian government for the immediate release of all detainees. The party sources said that a number of citizens from Bak'a were detained and several houses were raided.

Relatives of detainees asked Bak'a deputies for help in releasing their sons.

Chairman of the Public Freedoms Committee at Jordanian Parliament, Muhammad Azaida confirmed the arrest of a number of citizens in Zarqa, Amman and Bak'a, "We, depending upon a memorandum by detainees' relatives, addressed a message to the Prime Minister Dr. Abdul-Salam al-Majali asking him for halting arrests, raiding houses and to release the detainees as soon as possible," he said.

"We asked him for the indictment of those who are to be convicted," he confirmed.
