Sudanese opposition expect increased military activity
Sudan, Politics, 5/2/1998

Former Sudanese prime minister and chairman of the Ummah opposition party, El-Sadiq El-Mahdi, will fly at the end of the current week to Asmara, where the chairman of the Sudanese Democratic Unity Party, Mohammed El-Merghani, has already arrived.

El-Mahdi and El-Merghani are expected to meet to discuss the current military situation and arrangements for coming meeting of the organization and whether it should be held in Cairo or in Asmara.

The chairman of the rebel Sudanese National Democratic Alliance forces, Brigadier General Abdul El-Aziz Whaled, arrived in Cairo where he is holding talks with Egyptian officials, during which he will inform them on the military progress achieved by his forces on the eastern front.

Whaled told ArabicNews.com that the coming period would view increased military activities.
