Egyptian Foreign Ministry: Sudanese government violated property agreement
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 5/2/1998
A statement issued by the Egyptian foreign ministry said yesterday that the Sudanese government violated its agreement to return Egyptian properties immediately; moreover, it has not fulfilled its vow concerning cooperation in the field of combating terrorism by delivering persons that were involved in breaching of Egyptian national security.
The statement added that after the Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir's decision to return Egyptian properties that were confiscated when relations between the two states broke down, an Egyptian delegation was sent for 10 days of negotiations on implementing the decision.
But the situation was totally different than the plan at the beginning the meetings between the two sides in Khartoum, where the delegation was suprised by finding a very different stance being adopted than expected regarding what they had agreed upon with the Sudanese officials.
The statement said that the actions of the Sudanese government shake the required trust between the two countries.
The statement confirmed Egypt's adherence to improving relations with Sudan but it called for an immediate, firm implementation of the Sudanese pledges to bolster a chance to improve the relations between the two countries.
