Morocco denies cross-border terrorist infiltration
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 5/1/1998
Morocco's minister of the Interior Idris al-Basri on Thursday denied reports of confrontations between the Moroccan security forces and terrorist groups in Morocco, particularly in Wajda district on the border with Algeria.
Speaking before the Moroccan parliament on Thursday, the Moroccan minister strongly denied the presence of the Armed Islamic Group in Morocco and that any case of emergency had been declared in Wajda, in response to reports published by certain Algerian dailies.
He also denied any weapons smuggling operation between Morocco and Algeria and expressed Morocco's desire to establish strong relations with Algeria.
