Palestine-Israel-USA, Politics, 4/30/1998
U.S. President Bill Clinton expressed hope that the May 4th meeting in London between US Secretary of State Albright, Israel's P.M. Netanyahu, and Palestine's President Arafat will bear fruit asking the parties to consider the alternative if failure results.
Clinton asked "do they want to role the dice" and gamble on the future of the negotiations he asked. What will happen in the next six months if the negotiations are frozen? the president added and "what happens when the time table for the OSLO agreement is reached in 1999?
President Clinton said that "there is still no agreement by the Israelis" but they are getting closer. Clinton said that the two parties are arguing about a "step" "which is part of the OSLO agreement"and that this step is not a goal in of itself but rather a part of a transition to the full implemention of the OSLO agreement.
