Abu Dhabi to spend $75 billion on development
United Arab Emirates, Economics, 4/30/1998
Abu Dhabi will pump around $75 billion into a long-term development plan for its infrastructure and other sectors, officials said.
The Emirate has completed the first five-year phase of its 1990-2000 plan with an estimated of nearly 54.5 billion dirhams ($14.8 billion), they said.
"The plan was drawn up with the help of the UN Development Program, and its total cost is 273.6 billion dirhams," said Mohammed al-Hussein, chief engineer at the planning department.
Abu Dhabi is the biggest and wealthiest member of the United Arab Emirates.
