Former UN Chief in Lebanon calls for Israeli withdrawal
Lebanon-Regional, Politics, 4/29/1998

Lebanese President Elias Hrawi on Tuesday received the secretary-general of the Francophone States Organization Butros Ghali, who is also the former UN chief.

Talks dealt with means of consolidating cooperation between the Francophonic states and with other issues of common interest.

Francophone states are a group of nations which aim at promoting French culture and language and ties between member countries

Ghali called for Lebanese and Arab action to implement 425 unconditionally and without amendments. In a statement he made on Tuesday, Ghali said that during his post as a UN secretary general, he resisted attempts to marginalize UN resolution 425. He indicated that the amendment of the said resolution or any other resolution falls within the jurisdiction of the UN general assembly.
