Eight persons killed in Somalia
Somalia, Local, 4/29/1998

Some 8 persons were killed and 11 were wounded on Monday in battles between warring Somali militias in the surroundings of the coastal Somali city Kesmayo, Southern West the country.

An official in the militias said on Tuesday that confrontation erupted between Marjitin tribe affiliated to war leader Muhammad Saeed Hercy Mougsan and Marihan tribe. The Pro-Mourgan official said that three of his men were killed and other six were wounded.

Al-Nahar daily quoted other sources that Marihan tribe has lost five men. Well-informed source in Makadishu said that the strongest man in the south of the capital Hussein Muhammad Aided has sent an armored vehicle to Kesmayo.

However, Gen. Mourgan is enemy number one for Aideed who may take part in the confrontation if it will extend to Juba valley which falls under the control of his allies. Somali dailies said that some 600 persons fled from Kesmayo and its suburbs and arrived in Makadishu.
