Egypt examines suggested Arab - Israeli parliamentary delegation
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 4/28/1998

Egyptian sources confirmed that Cairo is currently examining a suggestion from the Israeli Meretz movement's head in the Israeli Knesset, Yossi Sarid, on forming an Israeli - Palestinian - Jordanian - Egyptian parliamentary delegation to visit Washington, and express the anxiety of the four countries' people's representatives toward the stalled peace process.

The parliamentary delegation would call on the US to invigorate the peace process. Sarid presented the suggestion to Palestinian President Yasser Arafat in Gaza on on April 19.

Meanwhile the suggestion is under study within the Egyptian People's Assembly's resolution rejecting normalization with Israel. The assembly adopted the resolution following the Israeli massacre in the Lebanese city of Qana in April, 1996.
