Al-Jihad al-Islami criticizes the Arab anti-terrorism pact
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 4/24/1998
Al-Jihad al-Islami - Fatah vanguard movement, which carried out the assassination of the late Egyptian President Anwar Sadat in 1981, and regarded, together with Egypt's Islamic Group organization, as the main banned armed organizations in Egypt on Thursday denounced the Arab agreement on fighting terrorism signed on Wednesday in Cairo. The group said the agreement serves the "interests of the Zionist enemy."
The Arab signatory states of the pact guarantee not "to organize, finance or commit terrorist acts or take part in them in any form." The Arab signatory states also commited themselves to "prevent and fight terrorist crimes according to each country's laws and applied internal measures" and through full cooperation between the security and judicial systems, especially in exchanging information on terrorist activities and handing over persons involved in such activities.
The Arab agreement on fighting terrorism views as terrorism all acts of violence, all threats to resort to violence whatsoever its intentions or objectives, targeting criminal acts against individuals or groups that may evoke horror and endanger people's lives, freedom or security.
