Gulf bankers get creative with new savings accounts

The commercial Bank of Oman and the Bank of Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait yesterday launched a unique savings account, Shukran, which guarantees a gift.
According to a press release, customers accumulate points depending on the size of the deposits and the period for which they are kept. The points can be redeemed for prizes twice a year at Khimjiss Megastore and, Muscat Electronics on the presentation of bank coupons.
The Shukran gift scheme is the first of its kind in the Gulf and is available at all branches of the commercial bank of Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait, which are due to merge on June 20.
