Syria-Kuwait, Politics, 4/22/1998
Syrian President Hafez al-Assad on Tuesday received the speaker of the Kuwaiti Ummah (arabic for nation) assembly, Ahmad Abdul Aziz al-Sadoun, and members of his accompanying delegation at the Presidential Palace in the coastal city, Lattakia.
In an arrival statement to SANA, the Kuwaiti official voiced his country's support for Syria's stances in rejection of any settlement that does not ensure peace for the Arab nation. He held Israel responsible for obstructing the Middle East peace process: "Israel is fully responsible for suspending the peace process against the realization of just and comprehensive peace in the region as a whole," he said.
For his part, the speaker of the Syrian People's Assembly, Abdul Qader Qaddoura, who welcomed al-Sadoun and his companions at the airport, noted the good relations and the agreement between the Syrian People's Assembly and the Kuwaiti Nation's Council regarding issues of concern to the Arab nation.
No information was given on the content of the talks of President Assad and Al-Sadoun. Al-Sadoun arrived in Damascus on Monday and will leave Damascus today for Lebanon.
