Turkey, Jordan carry out military exercises
Jordan-Turkey, Military, 4/21/1998

A Turkish contingent arrived today in Amman to carry out joint exercises with Jordanian armed forces in the course of military cooperation between the two countries. Meantime a similar Jordanian contingent left for Turkey for the same purpose.

Prior to the arrival of the Turkish military force in Amman, Turkish deputy Chief of staff Shafik Beir conferred with King Hussein and senior military officials.

In a statement Jordan said Jordanian training plans call for joint maneuvers and exercises with friendly armies, including the US and Britain.

A representative from the Jordanian naval force took part as an observer in the Turkish, Israeli and US marine maneuvers at the beginning of 1998 in the Mediterranean, provoking angry reactions from Arabs.
