The Sahara will remain Moroccan
Morocco, Politics, 4/21/1998

The Moroccan Independence Party's secretary-general, Abass El-Fass stated that the Sahara will remain Moroccan either by the referendum or without it, though Morocco will not deny the right of any person coming from the Saharan origins to participate in the referendum.

He said his country agreed to regulate the referendum to build for the future and to benefit the region from peace, yet the opposition is moving in opposition to this vision, which relies on establishing Moroccan unity.

Fass asked the US and the Polisario Front to confirm that they will abide in words and deeds by the plan for settling the issue and the Houston agreements.

Abdel Rahman El-Youssefi, the Moroccan prime minister, confirmed that his government intends to give high priority to the Saharan situation.
