Hamas halts anti-government campaign
Palestine, Politics, 4/20/1998
The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has decided to unilaterally halt anti-government campaign and to cease the release of leaflets on her behalf, a leading figure in the movement announced Saturday night.
Dr. Mahmoud Zahhar, a chief spokesman for Hamas in Gaza, said his movement would not accuse the Palestinian government anymore of involvement in the killing of Mohyiddin Sharif, a leading bomb maker who was killed in mysterious conditions two weeks ago. The Hamas decision followed a number of calls issued to the movement by members of the Palestinian Legislative Council and other politicians.
They all requested from Hamas to stop issuing leaflets and statements, saying such actions increase tensions between both sides. They also urged Hamas to cooperate with the PNA investigation in the killing of Sharif.
