Arbitrators ready to determine Henasih Island's destiny
Yemen-Eritrea, Politics, 4/18/1998

The international arbitration committee will announce its judgment during the coming month concerning Hebaish Island between Yemen and Eritrea. The island was taken forcefully by Eritrea.

Paris viewed an agreement between the two countries to allow the arbitration, which was signed by the Yemeni and Eritrean foreign ministers with the attendance of the Egyptian, French, and Ethiopian foreign ministers as well as the deputy secretary-general of the United Nations.

The agreement came after intensive efforts to prove their right by resorting to the international arbitration to present documents and maps to prove their sovereignty over the Island.

It also includes three items: the two countries are committed to solve their disputes peacefully, to accept the arbitration principle, and the decision of the international arbitration committee.
