Abdul Meguid praises Muabrak-Assad summit results
Regional, Politics, 4/17/1998
Arab League Secretary-General Esmat Abdul Meguid stated that the meeting of Egypt's President Mubarak and Syria's President Hafez al-Assad expressed the unity of the Arab stance toward Lebanon and Syria, beside refusing the Israeli attempts to evacuate UN Security Council resolution 425 of its content by proposing conditional implementation of the resolution, which calls for unconditional withdrawal.
He described the meeting as a very strong step that increases the depth of Arab relations, supporting it and pointing out that the presidents expressed the Arab position calling for Israel to abide by conventions and agreements that were previously ratified by the former Israeli government.
Abdel Meguid said that when the Arab nation chose peace as an option and strategic target, it was not because of feebleness or negligence of Arab rights, but to prove to the whole world that the Arab nation intends to achieve comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East according to the international legitimacy resolutions and the principal of land for peace.
