Lebanese Premier rejects Israeli conditional proposal from Lebanon
Lebanon-Syria-USA, Politics, 4/16/1998
Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri has asserted Lebanon's rejection of the conditional Israeli proposal on the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 425, which provides for Israel's unconditional withdrawal from south Lebanon.
In a statement to Voice of America radio on Wednesday night, Hariri said that the recent Syrian-Lebanese summit was held with the purpose of consultation and coordination between the two countries. He stated that Syria and Lebanon want peace negotiations to be resumed from the point at which they stopped to reach just and comprehensive peace but Israel "refuses the idea."
On the US call on Lebanon to study the Israeli proposal on the conditional withdrawal from south Lebanon, Hariri said: "We want Israel to withdraw from south Lebanon immediately and unconditionally," and he said the US, the main sponsor of the Middle East peace process, called on Lebanon to study the Israeli proposal but Lebanon completely rejects the Israeli conditions.
On the future of the Lebanese resistance, Hariri said the future of the Lebanese resistance will be determined after Israel withdraws from south Lebanon.
