Syria-Israel, Politics, 4/15/1998

Al-Bayader as-Seyassi magazine published in the occupied Palestinian territories said a celebration was held in the Golan town of Baqaatha on Monday to unveil the monument of Qassiyoun (the name of the mountain which overlooks Damascus) statue built in the town's center.

Hundreds of citizens from the Golan and from different parts of the occupied Palestinian territories took part in the celebration. The monument honors a number of the Syrian revolution's leaders and prominent martyrs.

In another development, the Israeli forces at dawn Tuesday detained three Syrian youths from Majdal Shams town in the occupied Golan. The arrest was made within the framework of an arbitrary arrest campaigns launched by the occupation troops in the town. Last month, the Israeli troops also detained several youths from the same town on accusations they flew Syrian flags and written banners condemning the Israeli occupation.
