Jordanian police crack down on drug users
Jordan, Judicial, 4/15/1998
Jordanian security police have recently seized large quantities of drugs and counterfeit money and prevented the smuggling of ancient artifacts.
"The amount of drugs seized over the past 20 days included 4.5 kg of heroin, 22 kg of hashish as well as marijuana," a top security source told reporters. Over 70 people of Jordanian, Arab and foreign nationalities were involved, he added.
Jordanian security police plan to launch a major crackdown on traffickers, pushers and users in an attempt to curb the increasing threat of drug abuse.
Police have also exerted efforts in the courts, dealing with thousands of counterfeit US dollars, Jordanian dinars, Saudi riyals and UAE dirhams.
