Lebanese - Syrian summit today in Lattakia
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 4/13/1998

A Lebanese - Syrian summit was held today in the city of Lattakia, in northern Syria attended by Syrian President Hafez al-Assad, Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam, Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa, and Lebanese President Elias Hrawi, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Diplomatic sources said the two presidents confirmed their rejection of any conditional suggestions concerning UN Security Council resolution 425, and said Israel should implement the resolution without any restrictions or conditions.

The sources also said the two presidents examined a message from US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright in which she stated that the Israeli Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai is serious about withdrawal from south Lebanon and said this suggestion is new and that it is not at odds with the peace process.
