Morocco, Politics, 4/9/1998
Moroccan Minister of Interior Idris El-Basri discussed during his meeting with Charles Dunbar, the special representative of the UN's security-general the issue of the upcoming Saharan self-rule referendum and current efforts to identity Saharan people eligible to vote in the ballot.
They addressed a number of issues relating to this subject, including implementing the UN team's April agenda, preparing its May agenda, specifying the identity of tribal groups, opening new centers for identifying those of Saharan origin in the Moroccan North, and announcing the partial results of the identification process.
Morocco said it will abide by the rights of all Saharan people participating in the referendum according to international standards.
