Egypt's Assembly head warns against double standards
Regional-Egypt, Politics, 4/9/1998
Fathi Serour, the head of the Egyptian People's Assembly, warned of the serious situation in the Middle East resulting from Israeli practices that have lead to a halt in the peace process.
In his address at the International Parliamentary Union's conference in Namibia, Serour called on international bodies to abandon a policy of dualism, applying separate standards for Arab states and for Israel, pointing out that this is dangerous and demands serious attention.
Serour said this has happened in Iraq and Lockerbie, where the Security Council became strict in dealing with these two issues, whereas it has not taken any procedures against Israeli practices in the Middle East that violate UN Security Council resolutions.
