Sudanese government expects a military attack
Sudan, Military, 4/7/1998
Lieutenant General Abdel Rahamn ser El-Khatem, the spokesman of the Sudanese army, said that Khartoum expects an immanent military attack in the tropical areas and east Sudan by rebels led by John Garang.
The Sudanese spokesman stated that the army had observed military buildups on the joint borderlines between Sudan and Uganda.
These buildups are supported by US tanks and coincide with the possibility that the rebel movement under Garang's leadership would ask to postpone the negotiations which are to be held between the two sides starting this month.
