Algerian committee investigates election forgery
Algeria, Politics, 4/3/1998
The parliamentary committee for investigating of what was referred to as comprehensive forgery in the local elections in Algeria, listened yesterday to statements by Algerian Prime Minister and head of the national committee for conducting the local elections, Ahmed Oyahieh, and two statements presented by Minister of Justice Mohamed Ademi and Minister of Interior Mostafa Ben Mansour.
The parliamentary committee is currently examining the situation after hearing from the political parties that supervised the local elections and governments' members.
Oyehiah stated yesterday that the United States refused Algeria's demand that it expel Anwar Hadam, one of the banned Islamic Salvation Front's leaders, from its lands. An Algerian court recently sentenced Hadam to death.
Meanwhile the Algerian prime minister stated that the economy has been greatly influenced by the country's crisis since the early 1990's.
