Jordan's Speaker satisfied with Lower House performance
Jordan, Local, 4/2/1998

Speaker of Jordanian Lower House Said Hayil Surour expressed his satisfaction over the performance of the 13th parliament at the end of its first four-month ordinary session.

"The House of Deputies was an active monitor of the government's performance without neglecting its legislator role in debating and endorsing laws," Surour said at a press conference held in Amman, Jordan yesterday.

He marked the end of the first parliament ordinary session.

"Among the hard issues debated in parliament were the government's privatization plan of state-run institutions and the future generations fund," the speaker said.

"Iraq's governmental crisis with the UN dominated a big part of the parliament session," the speaker stated.

"The House of Deputies tries to play an important role in listening to demands and suggestions by the people," he added.
