Jordan reacts to Israeli proposal to withdraw from southern Lebanon
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 4/2/1998

"Israel's seriousness is to be tested regarding its withdrawal proposal from southern Lebanon," Jordanian Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Jawad Anani said. "Progress should not occur on one track of negotiations at the expense of another track."

Anani called on Israel to respond positively to the US plan and withdraw from occupied Palestinian territories in implementation of the Hebron accord.

"I believe that this has been an improvement over previous Israeli proposals," Anani told reporters, "however, it is still conditioned by two Israeli terms," Anani said. "One of them relates to the security of people who live in northern Israel and the second one relates to the South Lebanese Army," he said.

"I believe that Lebanon probably will not accept such conditionality," he stated.
