Explosion that kills six coincides with Mordechai's visit to south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 4/1/1998

Six Lebanese were killed and one was reported seriously wounded in an explosion that took part Tuesday night in occupied Kawkaba.

The Lebanese daily al-Nahar said on Wednesday that the incident took place at 7.30 p.m., just one hour after a Lebanese resistance attack on al-Ahmadieh (Kawkaba) position, when seven Lebanese construction workers left the position in a pickup truck.

A missile hit their vehicle, causing the death of six persons, Abbas Abdullah Fares, his sons Ali and Hussein, Abbas Ali Fares, Abbas Ali Hammoud and Hussein Qasem Sheit. Hassan Abbas Fares was reported to be seriously injured.

The explosion coincided with the visit of Israeli Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai to Marjoun, where he met with commander of the South Lebanese Army, Lt. Gen. Antoine Lahd.

The explosion site is just 500 meters from the position of the Norway unit working within UNIFIL.
