Syrian-Saudi committee meets on cooperation
Saudi Arabia-Syria, Economics, 4/1/1998

The preparatory committee of the seventh session of the Syrian-Saudi committee started meetings in Damascus on Tuesday. It was co-chaired by Syrian deputy Foreign Minister Adnan Omran and Saudi Foreign Ministry under secretary for political affairs Ismail al-Shoura.

Omran said the whole world is proceeding towards the creation of economic blocs whose forms and dimensions are designed in a way that serves the developed countries, noting that Arab countries possess means of defending their interests through economic cooperation within the framework of an Arab common market starting from the free trade zone agreement.

He said, "The Saudi-Syrian cooperation might be an example of fraternal cooperation and developing pan-Arab cooperation."

Six technical committees were formed to discuss cooperation between the two countries in economy, trade, investment, and technology as well as in culture, education, information sports and youths. Added to these is cooperation in the fields of transport, communications, and between the two countries businessmen and ministers of the Interior.

Meantime, Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Dr. Muhammad al-Imadi and Shoura discussed in a meeting bilateral economic and trade relations and means of enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
