Lebanese President confers with Iranian FM
Lebanon-Iran, Politics, 3/31/1998

Lebanese President Elias Hrawi on Monday received Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi and members of his accompanying delegation. The two sides discussed means of developing bilateral relations as well as current conditions in the region, in particular the conditional Israeli proposals for withdrawal from south Lebanon.

In a statement to reporters following the meeting with the Lebanese President, Kharrazi stressed his country's "full commitment to hold cooperation with Lebanon in all political, economic and cultural fields."

In separate meetings between Kharrazi and the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri, and Foreign Minister Fares Boueiz, talks dealt with developments in the Middle East peace process as well as the Islamic and Arab situation. Kharrazi warned against the Israeli attempt to undermine Lebanon, noting that the strength of the Lebanese position stems from Lebanese-Syrian coordination.
