Syrian Vice-President Abdul Halim Khaddam on Sunday discussed with Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazzi, currently visiting Syria, the situation in the region, Israel's actions and policy, as well as bilateral relations between Syria and Iran.
On Saturday, Kharazzai arrived in Damascus for an official visit to Syria. Kharazzi said recent developments in the region requires consultation with Syria, especially on issues pertaining to the Israeli occupation which constitutes a threat to all countries of the region due to its expansionist policy, SANA reported.
Kharazzai added that Iran views the Israeli proposal to withdraw from south Lebanon as a mere deception, noting that Israel's goal is to devide the position of the countries in the region.
When asked about Iran's views on disarming of the Lebanese resistance if Israel withdraws from south Lebanon Kharazzi said, "this... is exclusively a Lebanese issue and Lebanon has to decide this issue in case of Israel's withdrawal."
On relations between Iran and the Arab Gulf states, Kharazzi said Iran's relations with the Gulf states are developing rapidly. "Our strategy and policy priorities are to expand these relations with these countries."
