Arab joint market to see light in 2008
Regional, Economics, 3/30/1998
Ambassador Said Kamal, the assistant secretary general of the the Arab League, said that the Arab joint market will see light in the year 2008, within the timing currently planned by the Arab League to achieve its goal, with the support of Arab leadership, of meeting the challenges presented by regional and international agglomerations.
He related the delays in the joint market achievement in comparison with the European market - to the inability of the Arab countries to overcome their political disputes and some countries' fears that they will lose their sovereignty in addition to the weakness of the Arab economic structure and poor management of human and economic resources.
Ambassador said Kamal praised the Arab rejection of Israeli penetration into Arab society in the Middle East, until Israel fulfills its commitments to the peace process.
He also considered the rejection of normalization as an effective method for the Arabs to pressure Israeli policies, which contradict the will of the international community as expressed through UN resolutions.
Kamal said the sanctions imposed on Libya and Iraq are obstacles to Arab economic integrity, and he asked the international community to lift the sanctions because they are unjust and illegitimate.
