Iran arrests Barzani party members for spying
Iran-Iraq, Politics, 3/28/1998
Iranian forces arrested 25 members of Massud Barzani's Kurdistan Democratic Party during the past three days.
The Iranian forces arrested the 25 persons in the district of Arofe in northeastern Iran and in Karg near Tehran, in spite of their status as political refugees. One of the 25 persons died in mysterious circumstances during his confinement and his corpse was delivered to his family in Zaifa, near Arofe.
An Iranian source said the reason for the arrest was that the 25 persons were spies for Israel and Turkey, adding that Sabri Serwasin, one of Barzani's most well-known counselors is one of the arrested. The source did not state the number of those arrested or where they are being held.
He added that the arrested confessed that they were spies for both Israel and Turkey, spreading misinformation to spoil the relations between Turkey and Iran.
