UAE confiscates 2.66 tons of drugs
United Arab Emirates-Pakistan, Local, 3/27/1998
United Arab Emirates police succeeded in the confiscation of 2.66 tons of drugs since the beginning of this year.
The commander of the Dubai police said 11 of the 13 persons arrested for smuggling drugs this year are Pakistanis, pointing to the imposition of restrictions on visas given to Pakistanis to enter the UAE.
Major General Dahi Kalfan Gonem, the supreme commander of the Dubai police said that forces combating drugs succeeded in confiscating drugs worth $7 million dollars smuggled by the Pakistanis.
He asked, "Should we impose restrictions over on visas given to the Pakistanis or should we treat them strictly?" He suggested consultations with the Pakistani ambassador and consul in the UAE to inform them, through the official channels, of the problems caused by this matter.
The UAE tries to maintain good relations with all Asian countries.
