Two Japanese economic grants to Syria

Japan will provide grants estimated at US $10.2 million to Syria in the framework of the technical and scientific protocol signed between the two countries.
This agreement were signed by the Syrian minister of state for planning and the Japanese ambassador in Damascus.
The first grant, estimated at US $4.6 million, is allotted for renewing Damascus' city water pipeline network, and the project is to be implemented within three years.
The second grant, estimated at US $5.6 million, is allotted for purchasing equipment needed for trash recycling in Aleppo. The equipment includes some 55 trash trucks, three bulldozers and maintenance spare parts covering the needs of the city until the year 2000.
