Vatican envoy on trip to Amman, Sanaa
Jordan-Yemen-Vatican, Religion, 3/27/1998

The Vatican's secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Jean-Louis Tauran, arrived in Amman on Thursday for a 24-hour official visit to Jordan in the context of his visit to the region, which will also cover Yemen.

Jordanian official television said that the Jordanian ministers of foreign affairs and tourism welcomed the Papal envoy upon arriving in Amman.

The report added that Tauran will hold talks with high-ranking Jordanian officials concerning "the stumbled ME peace process."

The Papal envoy will arrive in Sanaa later today to hold talks pertaining to relations between the two countries, especially the "possibility of building a Catholic center in Sanaa, where there are no Christian places of worship. Also under discussion will be the question of the restitution of a church in Aden, taken in 1973 by the government of the then People's Democratic Republic of Yemen."
