Commenting on the continuing violence in Algeria at a UN human rights meeting in Geneva, US ambassador to the UN Bill Richardson said, "The paramount need is for a credible, independent verification of the facts." He said, "In our view, a visit to Algeria by the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Summary, Extrajudicial and Arbitrary Executions and by international NGO groups would be a positive step for improving transparency in Algeria."
