Arafat for new UN initiative to revive Middle East peace

Palestinian President Yasser Arafat today called for an international initiative sponsored by the UN to revive the Middle East peace process.
In a statement to the Egyptian al-Akhbar daily today Arafat stated that on Monday he handed UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan a report on Israeli violations of peace accords with the Palestinians.
