Israeli lifted a ban on U.S. rabbi who said Rabin deserves death
Israel-USA, Politics, 3/25/1998
Israel lifted a ban imposed on an American rabbi, which had barred him from entering Israel.
The rabbi, Ibraham Heshet of New York, had an indirect link to the assassination of the previous prime minister, Yitzhak Rabin, some say.
An Israeli official explained that: the minister of interior decided to allow the entrance of the American rabbi because he does not represent a threat, according to the security body.
Heshet described the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in May 1995 as a traitor for signing the self-rule agreement with the Palestinians and said the punishment for such an act is a sentence of death according to the Jewish beliefs .
Rabin was killed in November 1995 after being shot by Jewish extremist, Yigal Amir who said he committed his act to prevent the Israeli government from surrendering more land to the Palestinians.
