Palestinian prisoners demand to enroll in their own universities
Palestine-Israel, Education, 3/25/1998
Palestinians held in Israeli jails called on human rights organizations to exert pressure of Israel to allow them to enroll in Palestinian universities in the West Bank.
The Dameer [Arabic for conscience] Organization said that families of 30 Palestinian prisoners held in the southern desert prison of Nafha had enrolled in the Hebrew University but are facing major financial problems and cannot afford to study there.
"Therefore, they want to be allowed to enroll in Palestinian universities where they hope not only to be charged with less tuition fees but can receive special exemptions," the organizatoin said. And even it that does not work, tuition fees in Palestinian universities are normally much less than those demanded by Israeli universities.
