FAO chief lauds Syria's agricultural policy
Syria, Agriculture, 3/23/1998

Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa and Director General of Food and Agriculture Oganization Jacques Diouf on Sunday discussed the importance of food security, particularly in developing countries, and the necessity of international cooperation in the field of food programs.

Talks also dealt with relations between Syria and the FAO. Later in the evening Syrian Agriculture Minister Asaad Mustafa and Diouf held a meeting. The Syrian minister underlined joint, fruitful and good relations between Syria and the FAO as well as FAO's role at the international level.

Diouf praised long-standing and strong relations between Syria and the FAO adding, "Thanks to the successful policies and leadership in Syria, those relations brought about good, successful and effective projects. FAO is developing agricultural projects in Syria, foremost of which are food security projects."
