Damascus hosts FAO's 24th regional conference
Regional, Agriculture, 3/23/1998
Meetings of the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization regional conference now being held in Damascus to tackle a variety of agricultural issues stretching from the FAO's offer of technical aid, studies and scientific research to the follow-up of the World Food Summit to the organization's contribution to making food available to the growing world population.
Aided by representatives of relevant international and regional organizations, participating delegates are examining current problems facing developing countries and weighing the drastic effect of those problems upon comprehensive development plans. Other agricultural issues targeted by the conference include natural disasters, water and arable lands.
Although the agricultural issues win the prime concern of each country, the conference, as the Syrian agriculture minister put it, must adopt a collective position to help solve developmental and agricultural issues. However, this also means that other world countries should also greatly contribute to the FAO-sponsored pursuit to persistently and systematically resolve agricultural issues everywhere.
