Gaddafi hails decision of International Court of Justice on Lockerbie
Libya-UN, Politics, 3/23/1998
Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi today expressed appreciation toward the International Court of Justice, the Arab League, the Organization for African Unity, the OIC, and the Non-aligned movement for their support of Libya during the UN Security Council's recent session dedicated to discussing sanctions imposed on Libya.
In a speech via the mass media, Col. Gaddafi added that the speakers who supported Libya during the UN session deserve together with their presidents, governments and peoples, "our utmost thanks." The Libyan President asserted that sanctions that have been imposed on Libya, which inflected heavy losses on Libya and neighboring states, are null and void in light of the recent decision of the International Court of Justice when applying the Montreal agreement on civil aviation on the case of Lockerbie, adding that the UN has noting to do with this case.
The Libya President wondered why the UN Security Council does not impose its resolutions on Israel concerning the need to withdraw from the occupied Arab lands while the US and Britain are trying to impose UN Security Council resolutions on Libya.
