Dubai conference for encouraging investment in Egypt
United Arab Emirates-Egypt, Business, 3/23/1998

Shiekh Mohamed Ben Rached El-Katoum the Dubai successor, inaugurated today a two-day conference held in the Dubai World Trade Center and entitled, "Egypt: The Emerging Market" to encourage investment in Egypt.

300 Egyptian and Gulf businessmen will participate in the conference, as well as Egyptian Minister Public Enterprises Atef Ebid, Minister of Trade and Supply Ahmed Goweili, Minister of Economy Yousef Butros Ghali, Minister of Industry Soliman Reda, and the head of the Egyptian stock market, Sherif Rafaat. The conference will be held in several main sessions.

One session, dealing with direct investment, motives and facilitation, is presented by the government for businessmen. They will also discuss the new economic direction within the open market policy. This session will be led by the head of the Sadat Investors Association, Ahmed Ezz, and Ahmed Shaokui, the head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt.

A second session will tackle contributions to the development project in Toshka, north of the Suez Gulf and east of El Taariffa, and a third session will address methods of activating the stock market and investment.

The Dubai World Trade Centre will also host the Discover Egypt exhibition, which began today and will run through March 26. The exhibition will feature a variety of Egyptian leather goods. Leading Egyptian leather tanning manufacturers will be taking part in the exhibition on behalf of the Egyptian Chamber of Leather Tanning.

One participating company is the Middle East Tanning and Leather Trade Company which produces all types of leather goods. It will participate with its branch specializing in leather shoes and garments.

Another participant is the Al Montazah Company for Leather Tanning, which produces all types of tanned leather used in manufacturing shoes and other leather materials. This company mainly manufactures leather garments.

Asalam Company (Sons of Zaki Jabbas) and the Egyptian American Company for Trading will also be represented at the exhibition.
